Another artist that was presented in class that I believe will be useful to me going forward.

NOTES ON THE PRESENTATION:

  • Historian/Monologist/Novelist/Playwright/Actor.
  • Dwells on the dark side of experience.
  • His performances are aimed at the idea of masculinity.

SHOWS:

  • Wake up and Smell the Coffee.
  • Pound Nails in the Floor with my Forehead.
  • Funhouse.
  • Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll.
  • Men Inside
  • Drinking in America.

Although his shows have a simplistic and stand-up feel to them his characters are very real and well observed.

Similarly is Whoopi Goldberg, who is famous as a comedian and comedic actress. A few years ago in college I did a presentation on Whoopi Goldberg and her show Direct From Broadway, which really struck me, although it was funny and like Bogosian a very stand-up style, some of her characters brought light to serious issues – Particularly, she played a little girl who dreamed of growing up to be blonde and white. Goldberg also observes well, as watching this character you do find yourself forgetting that she is not a child. –

The whole thing is good to watch but the monologue I mention starts at 21:00 minutes.

When creating and playing my character I would like to, as Whoopi does, transform into someone different.
