As Verbatim is something I know think is a technique I could affectively use, the first person I thought of was Ann Deavere Smith – Who was the subject of one of our class presentations. 

MY NOTES ON THE PRESENTATION:

  • Focuses on social issues behind current events.
  • From Baltimore, Maryland (This isn’t relevant but it is in my notes).
  • Taught at Carnegie Melon University (Again probably not relevant).
  • Fire in the Mirror – Played 29 roles! (1993).
  • Verbatim Theatre.

Although Ann’s “characters” are the people that say the things in her show, (which isn’t what I plan to do with my quotes) she is very selective with what she uses and where she places it in her performances, adding a narrative to her work.
